Meet Weezie
Hi I’m Weezie. I’m a I’m 6 year old (DOB : 1/15/18), female Golden Retriever who weighs approximately 65 pounds.
After being adopted from AGN in 2018, I was returned to AGN after my mom had a baby and could no longer care for me. I wasn’t adjusting well to the “new addition” as I’d always been her “baby”. She wanted the best for me and asked AGN to find me a wonderful family that would love me forever. I’m now enjoying life with my foster family and waiting for my true forever family, one where I’ll be pampered, loved, and can shower my humans with cuddles and kisses.
Attributes
Personality Traits
Super sweet, loving, affectionate, attentive, happy, curious and laid back…a complete love bug who lives to be loved! Perfect balance of an affectionate “velcro shadow” who craves attention and one who’s content to lie on my bed or couch close to you. I’m a lover of lounging on couches and beds, and the more pillows to cuddle up with the better. **If you don’t want a Golden on your couch/bed, then I’m not the sweetheart for you. More than anything, I cherish the love and affection from my humans. You’ll get doggie kisses in return. I can be sweetly shy at first in new situations/environments as I’ve been through a lot of change in my life. I’m a cuddly “couch potato” with bursts of energy, but mellow overall. Every pound of me is full of love and affection!
Status with People
Social butterfly who connects easily with people…wags and kisses for everyone, even at the vet! Friendly with all adults and older children on walks and visitors to my foster home. I’m fearful of babies/young children as I’ve never been exposed to them until recently. I don’t understand their sudden moves, noises, etc. They make me nervous. I should not be unsupervised with babies/young children due to my discomfort/fear, but okay if monitored by adults who recognize when I’m concerned. I’m fine with children past the baby/toddler stage in controlled environments. Children should be older, dog experienced and able to respect the boundaries of a dog.
Status with Dogs
Picky about my dog friends. Good with most dogs overall, but a warm up period is necessary. It takes me a moment to figure out my dog friends and feel comfortable with them. Then, I love to run, romp, wrestle and play. I tend to prefer more calm, laid back dogs. Not a fan of high energy puppy antics. I’m a confident female who prefers to be the “girl in charge” of the pack. I’m NOT a dog park girl! I guard my food and toys from dogs because I was bullied by two big dogs as a puppy. They didn’t let me eat. I should enjoy food and toys separately from other dogs. I’ll give a growl if dogs try to take my chewy bone away from me while chewing on it. I’m a good communicator and will give a little warning snarl if other dogs walk by me with a bone, get too close to me while I’m eating, or when I’m trying to rest or sleep. That said, at playtime, I’m the life of the party and ready to have fun with my dog friends who know that “Queen Weezie” is in charge.
Status with Cats
Good, but will playfully chase! Not all cats like that. I’m also all about a good squirrel chase.
Favorite Toys
Love stuffed toys that squeak. Will toss them up in the air and run around with them to play. I’ll carry a ball around the backyard and play fetch a few times, but if you’re looking for a partner to play fetch with…I’m bored after a few retrieves. I also enjoy things I can chew on such as Benebones. I’ll gladly share my toys/bones with my humans, but not other dogs.
Energy Level
Lower to moderate energy (as long as I get plenty of exercise daily…I LOVE my daily walks!). Even though I’m playful in all the best ways to drain my energy, my happy place is lounging on the couch watching the squirrels out the window. You can count on me to snuggle up next to you for your next great read or binge watching session.
House Trained
Yes. I’ll go to the door to stand to signal I need to potty. I know the word “potty”.
***AGN recommends you train me to “Poochie Bells” so that I can ring the bells to get your attention that I need to potty.
Crate Trained
No. I do NOT need one. I’m a well-behaved, trustworthy, housetrained pup who’s accustomed to open access to the house when my humans are away. I’ve always slept in bed with my humans, but have now learned to sleep on my dog bed right next to you. If you invite into your bed at night, I’ll gladly be your snuggle buddy! Otherwise, I’m content in my bad next to you as next to you is where I want to be.
House Manners
FANTASTIC! Foster mom says I’m a “perfect angel.” I’m not destructive with household belongings and prioritize my beauty rest over any shenanigans that other pups like to get into. I’m a furniture dog. I’m all about hanging out on the couch or bad, so if you don’t want a cuddly Golden snuggled up to you…I’m not the Golden for you.
Leash Manners
Great on a leash and enjoy long, daily walks where I can sniff. I’m not a puller on my Walk Your Dog with Love harness. I’m a terrific companion for a daily stroll through the neighborhood, park or hiking trails.
Exercise
MUST have a family who is committed to daily walks where I can sniff. I LOVE my walks and get excited when the harness comes out. I currently get two walks per day, approximately 1-2 miles each time. Like all Goldens, I must have daily exercise to maintain my lower energy. I’m NOT a candidate for a dog park, but I need socialization with a group of dog friends that I know and play with regularly.
Car Rides
Did you say road trip? I’m good in the car and ready to go. I get right in and lie down in a calm and relaxed way.
Basic Commands
Sit, Stay (work in progress), Outside, Potty, Walk, Are you Hungry?
***I know my name well and AGN asks that you do NOT change it!***
Medical Update
I partially tore may ACL and had TPLO surgery at Blue Pearl on March 12. Surgery was a success. I’ve done fantastic during recovery and have no limitations (within reason), but exercise should be gentle such as walking, hiking, swimming. Daily walking is critical to maximize my mobility and decrease arthritis development.
Things I need in my Forever Home
- Calm and quiet household with a moderately active person or family who likes to exercise DAILY by taking walks or gentle hikes. It’s important for me to stay active as I get older. I really thrive with my daily walks, and they’re important for my health!
- Someone home more often than not, only gone a few hours at a time. My foster family is home with me, working from home . I thrive in this environment because I want to be with you. I crave affection and cherish human interaction. I might whine when you leave and mope a bit, but patiently wait for your return.
- Would do best as an only dog as I’d prefer to be the center of your attention. I do need regular socialization and playtime with dog friends that I’m compatible with. No dog parks…I’m not that kind of girl!
- If a dog companion in the home, it should be a neutral, but confident, male dog who accepts me being in charge and takes a wide birth from me while I eat my meals and play with my toys. I’ll tell a dog that I’m the “queen bee”. I’m a confident girl with other dogs, so if a dog gets it’s feelings hurt easy, I’m not the dog for them.
- No young children please. Young children scare me, and I’m not comfortable with them. I’ve not had a good experience in my previous home. Children should be calm, older with dog experience, and respect the boundaries of a dog.
If you’re looking for a true companion who’s full of love to give…a social sweetheart who loves to go for daily walks, play, relax and snuggle, then look no further! Despite a few transitions in my 6 years, I’ve been loved and well-cared for. This has given me great comfort in the presence of people and allows me to generously share all of the affection I have in me. Could I share my unconditional love with you?
