Meet Remy
Hi, I’m Remy. I’m a 1 year old mix of something precious which likely includes Golden. I mean just look at my cuteness! I definitely have a Golden personality and the intelligence of an Aussie. My DOB is 11/1/24. I weigh 57 pounds.
I was surrendered to AGN after being abandoned at a vacation rental. I can hear you gasp…. I know it’s sad, but it’s turned out to be a blessing for me. I’m thriving in my foster home and ready to find a forever family to share my endless love, fun, energy and affection with. Could that be you?
Attributes
Personality Traits
Sweet, happy, playful, smart, curious, energetic, athletic and fun! I’m the typical “velcro shadow” who wins the award for “biggest heart”. I’m an affectionate combination of energizer bunny and attention seeker who lives to be loved. I’m a goofy older puppy with lots of positive puppy energy and smart as can be. I have a natural athletic ability and would excel at dog sports such as agility, fast CAT, etc. My intelligence is human-like. As with all older Golden pups, I get over-stimulated and jumpy in joyful exuberance, so you must be patient with my learning and willing to maximize my potential through force free guidance. I thrive on routine, physical exercise, mental stimulation and canine enrichment. I’m a fun and special puppy with major potential to be maximized! I’m looking for someone who loves life as much as I do!
Status with People
Social and excited to meet everyone. Everyone is my friend! I’m so happy that I bark with glee and am jumpy due to my joyful exuberance. This wears off in a few minutes once I’m past the initial over-stimulation. Then I settle down and all this ceases. Good with children. They should be older and sturdy on their feet due to my jumping in excitement. I don’t know my strength when I get excited, so pre-teens, teens, etc. would be ideal.
Status with Dogs
Good with other dogs! I love to play, play, play! I lived with another dog prior to coming to AGN. I’d do best with active dogs who enjoy playing as much as I do, but will also appropriately let me know if they’re done playing. I’m good with both male and female dogs.
Status with Cats
Unknown how I’d be living with a cat, but the ones I’ve met I’ve been curious about. I’d likely want to play, so it would need to be a dog savvy cat to put me in my place. I do have a high prey drive and I’m intense about chasing critters, so if a cat runs…game on!
Favorite Toys
LOVE Toys! The more toys the better. I enjoy stuffies, “pupsicles”, Kongs, chew bones, balls, lick mats, snuffle mats, etc. I enjoy playing fetch. I’m working on dropping the ball, so trading me for a treat or using two balls is the key. Toys and enrichment games such as snuffle mats, frozen Toppls, lick mats, games of hide and seek, etc. provide wonderful mental stimulation for me.
Energy Level
High energy older puppy that needs LOTS of physical exercise, mental stimulation, and enrichment games. After enough exercise and playtime, I relax and enjoy being your couch cuddle buddy. I’m young and active, but also settle down when my exercise needs are met. A tired pup is a good pup!
House Trained
Yes. I thrive on a routine. I can get creative to get your attention to let you know that I need to potty…jump up on you randomly, nudge you, lie across your lab, etc. ***AGN recommends that you train me to “Poochie bells” so I can give you clear communication that I need to go out.
Crate Trained
Yes, I’m comfortable in my crate and choose it to nap sometimes even with the door open. I’ll go into my crate without issue if you toss a treat in or give me a frozen peanut butter Kong and say “Crate”. I’ll need this in my forever home (at least for a while). It seems to be my “safe place”.
House Manners
Good manners, especially for an older puppy. Still PUPPY PROOF and crate me when you leave as I feel safe there! It’s your responsibility to put up what you don’t want me to have! I’m an older puppy, but well-behaved overall. Like all young Goldens, I’m curious about what’s on the counters. I’m also food motivated. If you don’t want me to counter surf, make sure your counters don’t have tempting things on them. I’m also a couch cuddler, so if you don’t want a snuggly pup on your couch, then I’m NOT the dog for you. I sleep on my dog bed next to my foster family, but I’d prefer to be in bed with you. I know the command “Bed” to go to my bed. When I fall asleep, I typically don’t move from that spot all night. You’ll get a little nudge when I’m up in the morning.
Leash Manners
Work in progress! I’ll need someone committed to practicing with me and a SafePet Easy Walk harness! I’m a perfect gentleman getting my harness and leash on. I’m pretty good on leash until I see people or dogs…then I’m overwhelmed with excitement and over-stimulation as just want to greet everyone. My foster family is working on this. I must have someone who understands the foundation of what’s going on (the over-stimulation) and works on meeting my underlying needs verses the reaction of pulling, lunging, etc. Focusing on the foundation will result in a change of behavior. Allowing me to sniff on my walks is also very important for mental stimulation.
Exercise
Older pup with LOTS of energy, so I must get significant daily exercise and playtime…walking, running, hiking, swimming, running and romping with my dog friends, etc. I’d be a good candidate for doggy daycare a day or two a week. Love my walks and excited to go! I get in 3-4 walks per day. I also jog every single night with my foster dad. We go about 2-3 miles. If you’re not committed to significant daily exercise with your dog, I’m not the puppy for you!
Car Rides
Learning the car, but typically good in the car. I like to look out the window. Sometimes I’ll try to get close to you, so a dog hammock is a good idea for the backseat. I need to associate the car with positive things, so sneaking some treats onto the backseat for me to randomly find when I enter will help with that. I need to go fun places…hikes, to get a pup cup, etc. so that I associate the car with fun!
Basic Commands
Super smart with major potential. I know: Sit, Shake, Crate, Bed and I know my name well.
**AGN stands firmly against punitive/fear based training methods. Training and behavior modification should be force free/positive reinforcement and relationship based.
Important
I’m working successfully through some abandonment syndrome. I feel safe in my crate when you leave as it’s my safe place. If left all alone by myself outside of my crate, I will panic right now. Just remember…. someone I loved and trusted took me on vacation and then walked out the door and left me abandoned in a VRBO. Someone must be understanding and patient as I leave this past trauma behind me. Also, I’m as smart as it gets. I know how to open the gates on the fence so you MUST have secure locks on your gates (not just latches, but locks!).
Things I need in my Forever Home
- Someone who wants and understands an intelligent, high energy older puppy with over-stimulated moments. Someone who knows the fun, challenges and frustration that comes with it and is committed to working through the adolescence phase.
- Experienced dog owner who is patient, committed, and understands the specific needs of energetic sporting breeds such as Goldens, Labradors, Australian Shepherds,
- Active family who’s dedicated to daily exercise, rain or shine. Lots of walks/runs, hikes, swimming and fun outdoor adventures. I need a family that loves exercise, fun outdoor activities and wants a doggy companion by their side.
- Someone who doesn’t work, works from home or works part time as I’m used to my family being home with me. I need this to get past my abandonment syndrome. I thrive in this environment because I’m young, active and need someone with the time to commit to my exercise, mental stimulation and training.
- Force Free/Positive reinforcement training is REQUIRED – this will help us bond and build our relationship…plus it’s so much fun! ***AGN recommends dogsandkat.com
- Need a nice, active dog to run and play with who’ll share toys with me, run, romp and play. My persistence to play would annoy a dog that doesn’t like to play a lot. A companion dog should be confident and neutral in temperament because I like to try and be in charge sometimes. At other times I’m a follower.
- Children should be older, dog experienced, and responsible due to my ability to open gates.
If you’re looking for an active furry companion whose playful energy compliments his deep loving affection, look no further! I’m a sweet, silly, smart, velcro shadow with major potential. You won’t find a more fun, happy dog than me. I’m waiting for that special someone who’ll continue my force-free/positive reinforcement training to maximize my potential, tire me out each day with fun adventures, and offer me unconditional love. Could you be that special someone to make my dreams come true?
