Meet Penny
Hi, I’m Penny! I’m a 9 year old Golden Retriever. DOB: 1/1/15. I’m a gentle giant at approximately 85 -90 pounds. Every pound of me is sweetness and love!
I was surrendered to AGN because my family had a baby and could no longer care for me. I was very sad, but I’m now ready for the next chapter of my life. I’m doing fantastic in my foster home, but it’s time for me to find a true forever family to call my own. Could you be my special someone?
Attributes
Personality Traits
Sweet, gentle, loving soul! To know me is to love me as my happiness is contagious. I have all the typical older Golden traits…social, adore affection, easy going, well-mannered and fun. I’m a calm, laid back sweetheart who’s quite “young” for my age so get ready for daily walks and ball throwing. I live to be loved and am appreciative of all the love and kindness you’ll share with me.
Status with People
Sweet and friendly with all people, happily greeting everyone. I’m good with older children who know how to respect a dog’s boundaries. Babies and small children who invade my personal space make me nervous and uncomfortable(normal for a senior dog!).
Status with Dogs
Good with other dogs and fit right in quickly with my four Golden foster siblings. I’m not a fan of hyper, small dogs in my face. I’m used to being an only dog, so I’m learning the fun of playing with my Golden siblings. I’ll snuggle up on a dog bed with any of them. I have no resource guarding.
Status with Cats
My previous owner stated that I’m good with cats, but AGN cannot confirm.
Favorite Toys
Favorite in my previous home was my stuffy toys, but the ball has become the winner in my foster home. I love to chase the ball. I bring it back, but haven’t learned to drop. Just trade the ball for a treat or use two balls to throw.
Energy Level
Moderate energy overall. I’m young for my age and active, but also laid back and enjoy my nap times.
House Trained
Yes. I go out on a regular schedule with my furry foster siblings.
***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.
Crate Trained
No and a crate is NOT needed. I do not do well with confinement. I have free roam of the home with perfect manners.
House Manners
Excellent. I’m the perfect house guest! I have free roam and not destructive. I sleep on an orthopedic dog bed in my foster parents’ bedroom at night.
Leash Manners
Good on leash with the Walk Your Dog With Love harness and enjoy my daily walks. I walk an hour a day so someone committed to daily walks is important for me.
Exercise
Daily walks are essential for me to stay healthy – a body in motion stays in motion! It’s important that I stay flexible and keep moving forward on a daily basis with nice walks through the neighborhood, park, gentle trails, etc. I walk an hour each day. I play with the other dogs. I also love to play ball. My previous owner states that I like to swim.
Car Rides
Ride well in the car, but I’m not a fan of getting in our out. A ramp/stairs have been helpful for me to feel comfortable.
Storm Phobia
My previous owner states that I have mild fear of storms, but none has been seen in the my foster home.
Things I need in my Forever Home
- Calm, quiet, laid-back household to match my personality
- Moderately active family that likes to engage in daily exercise such as strolls through the neighborhood and park, leisurely hikes through the trails, etc.
- Someone who enjoys spending lots of time with their furbaby…I’m a “hang out with you” kind of girl who craves affection
- Because I so love human affection and thrive with my foster family home with me, I need someone who is home more often than not…someone who works part time, works from home or doesn’t work
- I’d be fine as an only dog if you spend lots and lots of time with me
- I’d also be fine with another nice, calm and gentle dog companion to play gently with. I’m not a fan of small dogs invading my personal space, so I’d be best with a medium to large dog who respects boundaries
- I need orthopedic dog beds to protect my joints and bring me comfort when I nap and sleep
- Older children would be fine as long as they are respectful and gentle with me as I age
- I’m fine with stairs now, but a home with minimal stairs and carpeted floors/area rugs would be best as I age
I have so much life and love to give. I’m a low-key and easy going sweetheart who lives for your affection and chasing tennis balls. I’m full of unconditional love to share with you as the pitter patter of my paws follow you around each day. So, if you are looking for a wonderful Golden girl to bring you joy and happiness, let’s cherish life together. They just don’t come any sweeter than me! I’m just absolutely PRECIOUS in every way!
