Meet Lucas

Hi, I’m Lucas! I’m a 1 and 1/2 year old Golden Retriever.  DOB: 11/25/22I weigh 56 pounds.  I may be smaller in size, but have a big, bouncy personality! I’m lean like a doggy super model!

AGN rescued me from the shelter where I was turned in by a breeder with my brother. I was sad to be separated from him, but AGN knew it was best for us to live our own lives.  I’m living the good life in my foster home, but it’s time for me to start life with my forever family. I have a great foundation with endless possibilities.

Attributes

Personality Traits

Sweetheart of a pup who is loving, energetic , spunky, playful, goofy, and fun. The ultimate “velcro shadow”. Where you go, I go. I live to be loved by you! I’m a happy go-lucky boy, sporting smiles and wagging my tail. Personal space…what’s that? I adore my humans and crave their affection. The tilt of my head while watching you, the Elvis lip curl, my random self zoomies that result in me doing a “broncing bull” are all part of my fun personality. Did I say I love balls? I’m ball obsessed! Have you seen my cute “zipper nose”?  It’s my cow lick. Yes, I know I’m the CUTEST Golden ever!

Status with People

Social with all people on my walks. Amazing with older children who’ll run, romp and play with me.  I live with 10, 12 and 15 year olds. I greet them with happy wags and affection, just being one of the “gang”. I love to cuddle with them, will stay all night on the floor during sleepovers, and engage in outside play. The best is when they throw the ball for me! I’m a fun dog ready for fun kids to play with!

Status with Dogs

Good with other dogs overall, but better as an only dog in the home. I present as a confident male who’s really not that confident. I can be reactive if not compatible with a dog or if I feel like I need to establish control or pack order. I have a Golden brother in my foster home. We walk great together and have amazing play time the majority of the time. We share toys and water without resource guarding, play tug of war with ropes, stuffies and even a tennis ball in one of our mouths. We play rough and run zoomies. This scenario is the majority of the time. Sometimes, we’re quite fussy and I like to be in charge. I was used to my brother and we had everything worked out, so I’m learning new dogs.

Status with Cats

Interested in cats I’ve met on my walks, but no aggressive behavior shown. If a cat runs…I likely will chase for fun, but all I’ve shown is curiosity. A cat with claws could put me in my place. I do like to chase critters in the yard.

Favorite Toys

BALLS!  I love balls! I’m all about a game of fetch so get your throwing arm warmed up. I also enjoy stuffies, chew bones and sticks. Did I say I love balls?

Energy Level

High energy, but settle down nicely with enough physical exercise and mental stimulation.  I’m young and active so put on your tennis shoes and let’s have some fun! A tire pup is a good pup!

House Trained

Yes, and I ring “poochie bells” to let you know I need to potty.  Impressive, right?

Crate Trained

No and not needed. I have free roam in the house without issue.

House Manners

Good manners and really don’t bother anything…other than Amazon boxes. An Amazon box is a chew toy. I’m still young so puppy proofing is key.  During the day, I nap wherever my foster mom is. At night, I sleep on my dog bed in my foster family’s bedroom or snuggle up in the bed with my foster parents. I’m a couch dog, so if you don’t want a love bug on your couch, I’m not the dog for you.

Leash Manners

Good on leash for such a young age with the Walk Your Dog With Love harness. I LOVE my walks and we walk A LOT! Let me sniff as it’s great mental stimulation for me.

Exercise

LOTS of exercise is needed as I’m and older puppy, energetic and active. I get multiple walks per day plus lots of playtime…and of course, chasing the ball! I’m blowing it off the charts with my step counts, so if you’re not an avid walker, hiker or ball-thrower, I might be a bit too much for you.  I also need mental stimulation and enrichment games.

Car Rides

Motion sickness right now after about 20 minutes in the car. I’m learning the car and associating it with fun and positive things. It’s going to take me a bit, so practice with me a lot.

Basic Commands

Hold on to your hat as I’m super smart!  I’m learning through clicker training. I know Sit, Down (Lie Down), Leave, Stay, Here, Stop (Stop on walk)

I run to my spot for meals and immediately sit. I know to wait until told “go ahead” to eat. I know my name “Lucas” very well.

Things I need in my Forever Home

  • Active family that likes to exercise daily by taking lots of walks/runs, hikes, swimming and fun outdoor adventures. Someone who is committed to throwing the ball for me!
  • Someone who’s not gone long hours. Someone who works from home like my foster mom, works part-time or doesn’t work. I thrive with human interaction and need someone committed to my exercise and positive reinforcement training.
  • Force Free/Positive reinforcement obedience training classes are REQUIRED – this will help us bond and build our relationship…and it’s so much fun! **AGN recommends dogsandkat.com**
  • I’d highly prefer to be an only dog because I crave your affection and attention. I like dogs, but I’d really like to be the center of your world.
  • Older children would be great as I love to play with them. I’m just a fun dog for kids!

If you’re looking for a the ultimate “velcro shadow” companion who’s a sweet, silly, playful, energetic young dog…you won’t find a more fun, happy, adoring Golden than me.  I’m waiting for that special someone who’ll maximize my potential and offer me unconditional love (…and lots of ball to play with). I’m something special. To know me is to love me!

Luv, Lucas
