Meet Luca

Hi, I’m Luca. I’m a 2 year old, male Golden Retriever. My DOB is 12/22/22. I weigh 80 pounds.

I was surrendered to AGN because my military family had to move overseas. Although I miss them, I’m thriving in my foster home and ready to find a forever family to share my endless love, fun and affection with.  Could that be you?

Attributes

Personality Traits

  • Sweet, Snuggly, Affectionate
  • Playful and Happy
  • Velcro Shadow
  • Sweet-natured
  • Eager to please
  • Well behaved

I’m an affectionate sweetheart, always eager to be around people and shower them with love. I’m the ultimate “velcro shadow” who’s playful and energetic. I thrive during playtime…running around outside, playing with my favorite stuffed toy, or playing with a dog buddy. My charming and joyful demeanor makes me a constant source of happiness and fun, but I also enjoy cuddling up for some quiet time after an active day. While I’m a total “love bug”, I’m not fond of vacuums, loud noises, or strange large objects, which can make me feel anxious. With my friendly nature and love for humans, I quickly bond with anyone willing to spend time with me and make me feel safe. I’m truly a great young Golden!

Status with People

Friendly and social after the first initial “stranger danger” bark. Everyone is my friend once I see they want to engage with me, but I wait until strangers initiate their friendship. I can be occasionally cautious of men, but I warm up almost immediately. I love children and lived with six of them, but I’m jumpy in joyful excitement so children should be sturdy on their feet.  Just turn your back when I jump and then praise me when four paws hit the floor.

Status with Dogs

Good with other dogs, but proper introductions are best. I can come across assertive with a bark or possible growl, but then after a few sniffs…I’m good. It might take me a bit longer to warm up to a confident/in charge type of male dog. I’m in foster home with a male Golden and we’re buddies, but I’m typically in charge. We love to run, romp and play. We enjoy a good game of tug and share our toys without issue. As with any dog, I should be fed separate from other dogs. I’m confident in temperament and adjust my neutrality as needed. In my previous home, my female dog companion was my very best friend…we snuggled up together.

Status with Cats

Interested, but ignore after sniffing. Lived with cats.

Favorite Toys

Enjoy stuffy toys, ropes/tug toys, chew toys, Kongs and chew bones (Himalayan chews, beef collagen rolls, etc.). I’ll play ball and know “fetch”, but I typically just toss it around and chew on it verses retrieving it. I’m so smart, I bet you could teach me!

Energy Level

Energetic pup who must have lots of playtime and daily exercise. I’m not always the energizer bunny, though. When it’s time to snuggle or sleep at night, I settle down nicely.

House Trained

Yes, and I know “Want to go outside to potty?”

***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.

Crate Trained

Yes, but not needed. I have free roam in the home without issue.  I may pick up something that’s not mine occasionally, but that’s about it.

House Manners

Good house manners overall, but still puppy proof as I’m young!  I might find a shoe, hat or sock to carry around, but I haven’t been destructive. I’ll try to counter surf if there are opportunities. It’s your responsibility to make sure there are no temptations on the counters. I love to spend time on the couch snuggling with you. I choose to sleep in bed with my humans verses my dog bed. So, if you don’t want a Golden on your furniture…I’m not your Golden!

Leash Manners

Pretty good on leash with my Walk Your Dog With Love Harness. I’m not one to pull much. Let me sniff as it’s good mental stimulation for me.

Exercise

Young dog who needs daily exercise, mental stimulation and canine enrichment. I get a couple of walks per day at 1-2 miles each. I also get lots of running, romping and playing with my Golden foster brother. If I don’t have another dog to play with that means you need to take me on more walks, hikes, etc.

Car Rides

Great in the car and might even take a nap.

Basic Commands

Sit, Down (Lie Down), Shake, Come. Working on Off and Wait.

Special Needs/Medical

Thyroid levels are low so I take one pill per day which is no big deal and inexpensive.

Things I need in my Forever Home

  • Active family that likes to exercise daily…lots of walks, hikes, swimming, chasing balls in the yard, and fun outdoor adventures. I need a family that loves exercise and fun outdoor activities and wants a doggy companion by their side.
  • Someone who’s home more often than not. My foster family works from home so I’m used to my family being home with me and my furry sibling. I thrive in this environment because I’m young, active and need someone with the time to commit to my exercise.
  • Positive reinforcement obedience training classes recommended even though I’m well behaved and know quite a few commands. This will help us bond and build our relationship. It’s so much fun and my potential should be maximized. ***AGN recommends DogsandKat.com
  • Would do well with a nice, active dog to run and play with…one who’ll share toys and snuggle with me. I love to play and thrive with a dog companion. Although I’m in a foster home with a male Golden, my previous family states that my female dog companion and I were very attached. Any dog should be neutral in temperament as I would not do well with a dog that wanted to bully me or was overly confident.
  • Would also be fine as an only dog as long as you are my best friend and playmate. I would need regular playtime, lots of exercise and socialization with other dog friends as I thrive with most dogs.
  • Children would be great. I love children and would be a wonderful companion for kids. They should be sturdy on their feet (since I’m still jumpy in excitement) and know how to respect the boundaries of a dog. If children in the home, I need to be the dog that goes to the ball park, to pick up the kids at school, etc….a major part of the family and not left home during the kid’s activities!

I’m truly a great young Golden who really could fit into many types of households…except with another confident/in charge male dog. I live to be loved and just want to be with you wherever you are. I truly adore my humans! I’m looking for a family that will appreciate all the unconditional love I offer and make me a cherished member of the family. Could that be you?

Luv, Luca
