Meet Lolli

Hi, I’m Lolli. I’m a 6 year old English Cream Golden Retriever.  DOB: 12/1/17. I weigh 50 pounds which is the perfect weight for me.

I was surrendered by my family as they could no longer meet my needs. They wanted the best for me and trusted AGN to find me a wonderful family. I’m cherishing the love and kindness in my foster home, but I’m ready to find a forever family to call my own.  Could it be you? **I have a few special needs, so please be sure and read my bio in full!

Attributes

Personality Traits

Beautiful inside and out! As perfect as it gets! I’m a sweetheart who’s laid back, loving, gentle and playful.  I love to snuggle. but I can also show nice independence. I’m a calm and easy going girl, but never pass up the opportunity to play. I’m super smart and well behaved. I’m just as happy and sweet as you can imagine.

Status with People

Sweet and friendly with everyone. I’m good with children and lived with 3 children in my previous home (ages 7,9,11).

Status with Dogs

Good with other dogs. I have four furry foster sisters in my foster home. We all get along nicely. I love to play, wrestle and share my toys. I get along with both genders and am neutral in temperament.

Status with Cats

Good with cats according to my previous owner.

Favorite Toys

Learning to play with stuffies, toys and balls…I love them!  Hopefully, I’ll have a big toy basket in my forever home to “shop” from.

Energy Level

Moderate energy overall while also being calm and laid back.

House Trained

Yes. I get a lot of scheduled potty times so no known signals.

***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.

Crate Trained

I do not need a crate at all. I have free roam in my foster home and do great.

House Manners

Excellent. I’m the perfect little lady and don’t bother anything.  I sleep on my orthopedic dog bed in my foster parents’ room at night.

Leash Manners

Fantastic, until I see and squirrel and then I’ll pull. Foster mom is working on “leave it” with me, and it’s getting much better.

Exercise

Multiple short daily walks are important for me. I also enjoy playing with my furry foster siblings. Swimming would be ideal for me.

Car Rides

Good in the car and used to going for rides. I typically lie down in the backseat.

Basic Commands

I was trained as a hunting dog. I know all basic commands…Sit, Down (Lie Down), Stay, Come.  I also know “Let’s go to bed” and “It’s peanut butter time”. I know my name “Lolli” very well and AGN asks that you do not change it.

Medical Status

I have two orthopedic issues:  1) Mild right stifle osteoarthritis causing mild muscle atrophy of the right leg (this is comparable to a person having arthritis in their knee)  2) Chronic degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine (this is like a human having arthritis/degenerative disc disease in their spine). Just compare me to person hitting 50 and all the normal aging issues set in.

The standard protocol of management is:  1) Keeping me at a lean weight of 50 pounds  2) Gentle daily exercise such as walking and swimming – a body in motion stays in motion  3) Supplements – Dasuquin Advanced and Nordic Naturals Omega oil  4) Anti-inflammatory medication such as carprofen/Rimadyl when needed

**MUST have someone focused on keeping me lean throughout my life and someone committed to daily exercise via walking, gentle hiking, swimming (any low impact exercing).

Things I need in my Forever Home

  • Someone who fully understands and is committed to the conservative management needed for my chronic disc disease in my lumbar spine and osteoarthritis in the right stifle joint
  • Moderately active family that likes to exercise daily by taking easy walks, gentle hikes, strolls through the park, etc. A swimming pool would be a plus for me as I like to swim and it would be great for my orthopedic issues
  • Someone who’s home more often than not to take me on my daily walks and spend time with me. I love being with my humans
  • I’d be fine as an only dog if you are my best friend and spend most of your time with me. If an only dog, I’d need dog friends who play gently with me. I enjoy being around other dogs so the socialization is important
  • I’d highly prefer a dog companion in the home who’ll be play with me in a gentle manner and share toys. It should NOT be a dog that wants to play non-stop, but I do like to play.
  • I adore children and would love them in my home (or visiting grandchildren), but I cannot chase them around constantly due to my orthopedic status. I lived with children ages 7, 9, 11
  • A condo or townhome would be acceptable for me as I need someone committed to walking me on-leash every single day. Remember…no dog parks due my orthopedic status
  • A home with a pool or access to a lake that I can swim in would be a tremendous plus for my back and knee

So, if you’re looking for a super sweet, laid back, loving companion and you fully understand and are committed to my orthopedic needs… I’m your perfect pup!  I must have an avid walker that walks me every day on leash and takes me swimming as this will maximize the needs for back and knee. Please understand that what YOU do with me on a daily basis determines my future with my back and knee. Think low impact and not high impact. Think mental stimulation and canine enrichment. These are things that will help me thrive. I have a heart full of love to share with you, so let’s make a lifetime of memories together!

Luv, Lolli
