Meet Finley
Hi, I’m Finley. I’m a 2 year old, male Golden Retriever. My DOB is 2/28/22. I weigh 60 pounds.
AGN rescued me from a shelter after I was surrendered because my owner abandoned me with someone else. It was sad, but a blessing in disguise. I’m thriving in my foster home, and I’m ready to find a forever family to share my endless love, fun and affection with. Could that be you?
Attributes

Personality Traits
Close is never close enough…I live to be loved! Typical young Golden who represents the breed perfectly. I’m a sweet, snuggly, affectionate, bubbly, playful, ball-loving “velcro shadow”. I’m a love bug and lap dog who thrives with lots of time with my humans…walks, hikes, ball chasing…and of course, cuddling on the couch with you. I even like bath time…I’m a special fella! I’m a social butterfly who loves everyone and most everything. I’m super smart and aim to please. I have a wonderful temperament. To know me to love me!

Status with People
Social butterfly who never meets a stranger. Everyone is my friend! I’m jumpy in excitement so children should be sturdy on their feet.

Status with Dogs
Good with dogs! I respect the social boundaries of dogs and understand their communication. I love to run, romp and play with my Golden foster sister. I’m neutral in temperament. I don’t guard my toys or food. I love to play tug with my furry foster sister and be wherever she is. I also like to snuggle with her.

Status with Cats
Unknown as I don’t have them in my foster home, but I’m not phased by them on my walks.

Favorite Toys
LOVE toys. I’ll pull every toy of the toy box multiple times a day. I love stuffies and anything that squeaks…the louder the better!! I like to sleep with a stuffy and use it as my pillow. It’s important that I have lots of toys in my forever home so I can go “shopping” in the toy basket and because I carry them around and squeak them. I love to play fetch with a ball or anything you toss. I’ll bring it back, but need to learn how to drop it. Just use a treat to trade with me or use a second ball and I’ll get it quickly.

Energy Level
Energetic pup who must have playtime and daily exercise. I’m not always the energizer bunny, though. When it’s time to snuggle or sleep at night, I’m quite calm and quiet.

House Trained
Yes. I go to the door to signal that I need to go out. I know the word “Potty”.
***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.

Crate Trained
Yes, but I do not need a crate. I’m only crated at night so that I feel like I have my own safe place, but I have free roam when my foster humans are home and leave the home. A crate is not needed at my age in my new home.

House Manners
I have great house manners and don’t bother anything. I love to spend time on the couch and bed to snuggle with you, so if you don’t want a Golden on your couch…I’m not your Golden! I also love comfy dog beds to nap on.

Leash Manners
Very good leash manners on my Walk Your Dog With Love Harness.

Exercise
Young and need daily exercise, mental stimulation and canine enrichment. I typically get a couple of walks per day at 1-2 miles each. I also get lots of playtime with my Golden foster sister.

Car Rides
Love to go on car rides! I’ll go with you any chance I get. I’m the perfect travel companion because I’m ready to go wherever you’d like! Once I’m in, I’ll sit there until my furry foster sister gets out first, to make sure the car ride is over.

Basic Commands
I’ve been taught the following commands with force free/positive reinforcement training, but still perfecting them, “Sit”, “Stay”, “Down”, “Paw”, “Come”, “Hug”, “Off”. The only thing I really need to work on is not jumping in joyful excitement, but I’m learning. Just turn your back to me when I jump and praise me when all four paws are on the floor. My potential is truly endless because I’m super smart and attentive. I know my name “Finley” very well.

Things I need in my Forever Home
- Active family that likes to exercise daily…lots of walks, hikes, swimming, chasing balls in the yard, and fun outdoor adventures. I need a family that loves exercise and fun outdoor activities and wants a doggy companion by their side.
- Someone who doesn’t work, works from home or works part time as I’m used to my family being home with me and my furry siblings. I thrive in this environment because I’m young, active and need someone with the time to commit to my exercise and training.
- Positive reinforcement obedience training classes recommended.. Not because I need them, but because this will help us bond and build our relationship. It’s so much fun and my potential should be maximized. ***AGN recommends DogsandKat.com
- Would highly prefer another nice, active dog to run and play with…one who’ll share toys and snuggle with me. I love to play and thrive with another dog companion. The dog should be neutral in temperament and like to play tug.
- Would likely be okay as an only dog as long as you are my best friend and playmate. I would need regular playtime and socialization with other dogs as I thrive with dogs
- Older children would be fine. They should be sturdy on their feet and know how to respect the boundaries of a dog.
I don’t want to brag, but I could be the poster child (OK, poster dog) for Golden Retrievers…sweet, handsome. playful, social, snuggly, intelligent and energetic. I love everyone and everyone I’ve met loves me. I’ll bring joy into the lives of my future family. If you have the time, energy and commitment to devote to a special, young companion, you’ll hit the jackpot with me!
