Meet Eden

Hi, I’m Eden. I’m a 1 and 1/2 year old Golden Retriever. DOB: 5/19/23. I weigh 55-60 pounds.

I was surrendered to AGN because my owner’s roommate’s large, female dog was attacking me. My owner also worked long hours and things must have happened to me while she was away that created fear of certain men. I’ve learning to open my heart to trusting and enjoying life to the fullest. I’m experiencing love, happiness and fun with my wonderful foster family, but it’s time for me to find my true forever family.

Attributes

Personality Traits

  • Super sweet
  • Happy
  • Smart
  • Shy at first of people and new situations
  • Fearful of some men – will bark in fear or run and hide
  • Velcro shadow and an in your face kind of girl
  • Lover of stuffies, plush dog beds and couches
  • Amazing Golden with major potential – needs confidence building

I’m an energetic, sometimes mischievous older puppy who wants nothing more than your affection once I know and trust you. I’m blossoming each day as a beautiful work in progress.  You’ll fall in love with me as long as you give me a chance to trust you. I’m tentative of strangers and new things, occasionally being spooked by men. With time and socialization, I’ll continue to build confidence. I must feel safe and secure.  I’m a typical older puppy and need guidance through force free/positive redirection.

Status with People

Lives to be loved!  I never pass up an opportunity to get love and affection from those I trust. Strangers should let me approach them when I feel comfortable. Fearful of men (especially young men) when they come downstairs or make sudden movements. I’m drawn to women, but good with kind men who are gentle and calm. I love my foster dad! Once I feel safe and secure, I cherish affection and attention.

Status with Dogs

Good with other dogs, but submissive due to my past trauma. Takes me some time to trust and engage. I enjoy snuggling and playing tug with my furry foster siblings, but get a bit overwhelmed when they try to wrestle with me. I cuddle up in the big dog bed with my Golden foster sister, but it took time to get to that point.  I’m a great dog to co-exist with another dog, but not one to run, romp and play.

Status with Cats

Unknown, but likely fine.

Favorite Toys

Stuffies are my favorite. I LOVE to carry a stuffy around in my mouth. I also enjoy chew bones and a good game of fetch with a ball.

Energy Level

High to moderate overall. I settle down nicely to snuggle on the couch with my foster mom and furry foster siblings when tired.  I’m young so I’ll need lots of physical exercise, mental stimulation and canine enrichment to thrive.

House Trained

Yes. I’m on a scheduled potty routine and go out often. I do not give signals.

***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.

Crate Trained

Yes. I’m currently crated at night to sleep and if my foster family is gone from home (which is rarely). I have free roam around the house otherwise. I’m still an older puppy, but it’s time for me to be worked out of the crate once adjusted to a new home. Just make sure you puppy proof.

House Manners

PUPPY PROOF!!! Keep the floors clear of things I can put in my mouth and train “Trade for a Treat” so that I’ll drop what I have willingly for a treat. It’s your responsibility to guide and teach me with positive reinforcement.   Right now, everything is a toy for me…just ask foster mom’s Christmas ornaments that I thought were toys.

Leash Manners

Making progress on the leash, but need continued work due to fear. I need confidence building as many things spook me outside. I’ll get there with time and practice. Just make it fun, positive and let me sniff for mental stimulation.

Exercise

High energy older puppy who need lots of exercise. My foster home has a 1 acre fenced in yard, and I love to run and explore.

Car Rides

Good in the car. I get right in. I need to associate the car with positive things to build confidence. The more I go for rides to fun places, the more confidence I’ll build.

Basic Commands

Sit, Shake/Paw, Get Your Toy, My name, Eden. I know my name very well and come running when you call my name. Please do not change it as it will set me back and affect my recall.

Phobias/Fears

No phobias, but hyper-alert to sudden movements, noises and people. Just need to build confidence and be exposed to more things.

Things I need in my Forever Home

  • Someone who is dog experienced, understands what I’ve been through and is committed to helping me continue to overcome my traumatic past. I need confidence building, socialization and exposure to new things that are positive. I’ve made progress with time, patience, a routine, and force free/positive reinforcement guidance to create a feeling of safety and security for me.
  • Someone who wants and understands an energetic, older puppy and all the fun, time, and sometimes frustration that comes with it. I’m a really good pup, but learning!
  • Moderately active family that enjoys daily walks, hikes, and fun outdoor adventures.
  • Someone who’s home more often than not. Someone who doesn’t work, works from home or works part time.  I thrive in this environment because I’m young, active and need someone with the time to commit to my exercise, training and healing.
  • Force Free/Positive reinforcement training classes REQUIRED. This will help us bond and build our relationship. Agility would be a great way for me to build confidence. ***AGN recommends DogsandKat.com
  • Fine as an only dog if you spend most of your time with me. Also fine with a nice, gentle dog companion…one who’s very neutral and will not bully me. I’m not one to run, romp and play with other dogs, but I co-exist, play tug and snuggle with my furry foster siblings once I trust them.
  • Prefer no children in the home as even teenage boys can cause a fear reaction from me. I need to work through my trauma in a calm household where I’m the center of attention.

I’m the true definition of a rescue dog who’s blossoming into an incredible success story…one who’s survived trauma and still has a heart full of love to embrace all the wonderful things that life has to offer.  My heart full of love is here for YOU if you’re ready to build a life full of happiness with me!  Let’s make a lifetime of memories together!

Luv, Eden
