Meet Aspen
Hi, I’m Aspen. I’m a 1 year old female, English Cream Golden Retriever. DOB: 9/21/23. I’m a petite girl at 51 pounds.
I was surrendered to AGN so that I could get more one on one attention. I lived in a home with a lot of dogs. There was a small dog that was constantly in my space and we did not get along well. Big dogs and small dogs are not always compatible and I’m more of a big dog kind of girl. I’m loving life in my foster home with a big Golden/Husky brother, but ready to find a family to call my own.
Attributes
Personality Traits
Sweet, snuggly, smart, loving, playful, “velcro shadow” who’ll steal your heart in an instant! I’m a love bug that wants nothing more that your affection. I’m a fun and happy girl who’s a bit starved for affection right now so the more you love on me, the better. I’m learning and thriving more and more each day!
Status with People
Everyone who meets me loves me! I crave human affection. I’m interested in meeting new people at any given opportunity. I can be sweetly shy at first, but soon your my best friend. I’m good with children, but still a little “puppy mouthy” so older children would be best.
Status with Dogs
Good with big dogs and lean neutral to submissive with them, but should not be with small dogs due to my past experience. I have one Golden foster brother who I enjoy running, wrestling and playing with. We chase critters together and go on daily walks. We love to play tug and hang out on the couch together, sometimes jumping on and off the couches to play.
Status with Cats
No cats! I’m a critter chaser with a prey drive. I’ll chase anything small that moves, including flying leaves. My furry foster brother and I are always on “squirrel patrol” or patrol for any other tiny critter that’s on the move.
Favorite Toys
Stuffies , balls and chew bones are my favorite. I’m learning how to play ball with the humans. I share toys nicely with my foster brother and like to carry my toys in my mouth.
Energy Level
Moderate to high energy overall, but settle down nicely to snuggle with my foster mom and furry foster brother. I can be energetic and active and then once tired, chill and laid back.
House Trained
Yes, I go to the door to signal I need to go out. Foster mom also takes me out to potty on a regular schedule.
***AGN recommends that you train my to Poochie Bells so I can provide clear communication when I need to go out.
Crate Trained
Yes, but I’m at the age to be worked out of the crate (especially since I have such impressive puppy manners). I’m in my crate when foster mom is gone. I sleep at night in foster mom’s room on a dog bed. I’m quiet as a mouse all night and don’t bother a thing.
House Manners
Good manners, but still puppy proof since I’m still an older puppy. It’s your responsibility to guide and teach me with force free, positive reinforcement training. I’m not destructive, but foster mom supervises me.
Leash Manners
Getting better every day with my daily walks. My “Walk Your Dog With Love” harness is important for me. I love to walk with foster mom and my furry foster brother. Give me time to sniff as it’s great mental stimulation for me.
Exercise
I’m a puppy so need consistent daily exercise. I get a 1 and 1/2 mile walk each day and lots of playtime with my furry foster brother. I need a large dog companion to play with as I’ve never been without another dog. According to my previous owner I love to swim, so a pool or lake access would be great fun for me.
Car Rides
The car is new, but I’m learning and doing well. I need fun and positive adventures in the car. Yummy treats waiting for me in the backseat would be great to get me excited about the car.
Things I need in my Forever Home
- Moderately active family that enjoys the outdoors with a dog companion by their side, is committed to my daily exercise and socialization. Walking, hiking, exploring nature, swimming, etc. I’m an older puppy and need lots of exercise and doggy playtime.
- Someone who doesn’t work, works from home or works part time as I’m still learning each day. I can’t continue to progress unless someone has the time to work with me on a daily basis. I need the human interaction.
- Positive reinforcement obedience training classes REQUIRED. This will help us bond and build our relationship…and it’s so much fun. **AGN recommends dogsandkat.com
- Children in the home are fine, but they should be old enough to understand my “puppyness” and respect the boundaries of a dog.
- I must have a large, active dog to play with…no small dogs and no cats.
I’m a young Golden who’s as sweet as can be! I’m the love bug you’ve been waiting on who’ll bring you happiness, joy and fun! So if you’re a big dog loving person without small dogs in your life, you won’t find a more precious pup to steal your heart and create wonderful memories with!
